Patriots Improve to 4-0 with Dominating Victory Over Dallas 30-6

The New England Patriots improved to 4-0 on the season with a complete team win 30-6 over the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas. The Patriots offense struggled early with protection of Tom Brady as he was sacked 5 times in the first half. The Patriots defense was at times dominate New England’s defense held Brandon Weeden and the Cowboys to just 264 yards of total offense.
The Patriots got on the board first with a 49 yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski, who was 3 for 3 on the day kicking the ball. After the Cowboys tied it up at three, it was all Patriots from there. Tom Brady took out his frustrations on the Cowboys, finishing 20 of 27 for 275 yards, two touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. After the rushing TD, a visibly pumped up Tom Brady spiked the ball ala Rob Gronkowski, screaming “let’s go!”
While Brady continued his stellar play to start the season, it was Dion Lewis whose hot start was that of legends on his touchdown catch and run. Lewis caught a pass thrown a bit behind him with one hand, and then juked out one Dallas defender, before ducking under another and diving into the end-zone. It was exactly the type of play Tom Brady foreshadowed earlier this year when he said that Lewis “will be a cult hero with his quickness”. LeGarrette Blount again provided the thunder to Lewis’ lighting rumbling for 74 yards on 13 carries. Lewis led the Patriots with eight catches. Gronkowski and Edelman each had four receptions, but Edelman’s 59 yard catch and run for a touchdown was pure determination. After the offensive line fixed its protection issues things looked better. The Patriots still need to work on the pick play as they were again called for pass interference twice in the game.
The Defense had its best game of the year, picking up two turnovers and sacking Weeden three times. The duo of Donta Hightower and Jamie Collins was hard for the Cowboys to stop, as they continued to get “A” gap pressure. Jabaal Sheard was great against the pass with two sacks, and in setting the edge against the run. The rib injury suffered by Hightower will bear watching as the Patriots seemed to go back to a bend but don’t break defense when Hightower left the game. Collins was a force, forcing a fumble and playing all over the field. Malcolm Butler allowed only one reception for 13 yards and was stuck on Cowboys receiver like glue for most of the game.
The Patriots are playing like the best team in the NFL and the game against the Cowboys, once again proved that the Patriots aren’t scared of a little adversity. Credit the coaching staff for making the adjustments at the half, to help protect Brady. Marcus Cannon did a fine job stepping in for injured Nate Solder. The Patriots now get ready for the Indianapolis Colts. You can be sure that the Patriots will be out for blood. The Colts have won three games in a row after a 0-2 start.
