Brad Stevens will go with a four big rotation this season and if Europe is any indication it’s Tyler Zeller, David Lee as the starters with Amir Johnson and Kelly Olynyk coming off the bench.
“My thought right now is we won’t play more than four on most nights,” Stevens said to CSNNE.com’s A. Sherrod Blakely. “Whoever those four may be, may depend on the night, may depend on how they’re playing, may depend on who is healthy.”
The guys mentioned above are the clear “winners” if you will. What remains to be seen is what will be done with Jared Sullinger and, to a lesser degree, Jonas Jerebko (who could find minutes playing some small forward).
“They all have been really good about it. They all understand it; it is what it is,” said Stevens of the non-top 4 bigs.
We speculated that Sullinger might be on the outside looking in our European recap after he logged the least amount of minutes out of the C’s bigs and, given his weight issues, the Celtics may be asking the Ohio State product to prove he is worth including in the teams present and future.
If Sully ultimately loses his spot in the rotation, it might literally and figuratively be the biggest waste of talent in recent memory for Boston basketball.
