Tonight was never going to be a prize fight. The Nets left most of their guys (Jarrett Jack, Joe Johnson, Thaddeus Young, and Brooke Lopez) back in Brooklyn. While the Celtics were missing Isaiah Thomas (knee), David Lee (strep throat) and Jae Crowder (thumb sprain).
Regardless, the Celtics were able to open up the TD Garden with the 111-105 preseason win.
Marcus Smart and Avery Bradley were the starting guards, but Terry Rozier, who returned to the lineup, shined coming off the bench.
Racking up a team high 28 minutes, the rookie was all over the court scoring 16 points, dishing out six assists, had four steals and grabbed four rebounds.
He also just missed a slam dunk that would have made the Garden combust.
The rest of the Celtics starters were Amir Johnson, Evan Turner and Tyler Zeller. Johnson started the second half out strong scoring the C’s first 10 points on the way to 15 on the night.
Kelly Olynyk looked extremely confident on the parquet scoring 14 points off the bench and, for what it’s worth, CSNNE’s Mike Gorman noted that Kelly seemed more mature this season.
Despite being just a preseason game, the Garden seemed to be pretty filled and at some points got loud.
Celtics wrap up the preseason with two more games this week. They’ll play the Knicks on Thursday at the Garden and then play the 76ers in Manchester, NH on Friday.
