New England Patriots vs Washington Redskins Week Nine Preview

The New England Patriots enter their week nine game against the Washington Redskins 7-0.  The Patriots have been taking the league by storm all season long, and Sunday at Gillette Stadium looks to be no different.   On paper the match-up looks very lopsided and on the field it could be worse. Jay Gruden’s team has virtually no chance against the Patriots and Bill Belichick.

When looking at the tale of the tape, the Patriots clearly have the edge on offense.  Washington ranks 18th in total defense and is going up against a Patriots offense that ranks first in points scored. Tom Brady, Julian Edleman, and Rob Gronkowski are going to eat this team for lunch.  Let alone that the skins rank 30th against the run and we could see big days for both Dion Lewis and LeGarrette Blount.  The Patriots have an ever changing offense and they attack on a game plan base.  Its hard to predict against a week skins team how will they attack.  The bet is the Tom Brady revenge tour continues and Brady throws for 300 plus yards and three plus touchdowns.

On defense the Patriots usually take away what the opposing team does best.  Going into the season it was thought that the running game was going to be a strength for the skins.  Alfred Morris has had a very sub-par season rushing for only 3.3 yards per carry.  The Patriots run defense should not have an issue with the Washington running attack.  If there is a place that the Patriots could worry its with DeSean Jackson coming back from his injury to help the passing attack.  The Patriots should allow Malcolm Butler to match DJacks one on one. Butler has above average closing speed.  With Butler on Jackson, that will leave Logan Ryan the task of holding down Pierre Garcon.  Garcon use to be a dynamic play maker. This season he is averaging under ten yards per catch.  The battle to look for in this game will be the Patriots defensive pass rush that has 26 sacks on the season versus a very good Redskins offensive line that has allowed only eight this season.

The Patriots should and will be victorious in this one.  My final score prediction is Patriots 45 Redskins 21.  The Patriots will improve to 8-0 on the season and continue the revenge tour.
