WAKEFIELD, Mass. — Junior defenseman Dylan Zink (Madison, Wis.) of the No. 5 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Zink, who was named “Man of the Match” on Friday night, recorded two goals in the 3-2 victory over Northeastern in league play at SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland, which included the overtime winner just 1:13 into the extra frame. He followed up that performance with an assist and the shootout clinching goal in the “Friendship Four” Championship Game on Saturday night vs. Brown in the 5-5 tie to help the River Hawks earn the first ever Belpot Trophy.
Zink has registered nine points (5g,4a) this season, which ranks fourth on the UMass Lowell roster, in 14 games to go along with a 4 plus/minus rating. His nine points ranks tied for seventh among Hockey East defensemen. He has posted five points (2g,3a) in his last five games for the River Hawks.
It marks the first time in his career he has won the award and it marks the second career Hockey East weekly honor for the junior defenseman.
The River Hawks return to action on Saturday, December 5th at UConn in Hockey East action. Game time from the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. is 3 p.m.
