The Manchester Monarchs will look to snap a three game losing streak tonight when they travel to face division rivals the Elmira Jackals. The Jackals trail the Monarchs by just three points in the standings with two games in hand.
Manchester is coming off of a tough 5-2 loss to the Adirondack Thunder on Wednesday night that has its position as division leader in jeopardy. This weekend is an opportunity for the Monarchs to separate themselves a bit from at least Elmira.
Max Kitsyn has been hot for the Monarchs, scoring 11 goals on the season and is third in the league with 109 shots on goal. In general, the Monarchs succeed when they can get off shots and lead the league with 34 shots on net per contest.
This is the fourth time (and fifth tomorrow) that these teams will meet this season out of 11 matchups. The Jackals are undefeated when leading after two periods, but the Monarchs are also a good team at coming from behind because they shoot so much.
All three of the Monarchs past games have gone to overtime, two of them being losses in the shootout to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, who they hosted in Manchester this past week. Elmira has been playing well, at 6-4 in its last ten contests.
The Monarhcs will face Elmira again tomorrow night to wrap up the home-and-home series.
