Celtics split home and home with Orlando over the weekend

The Celtics started out the weekend by extending their winning streak to 5 games after defeating the Magic at TD Garden on Friday and Sunday looked to be more of the same until Orlando surged back to steal the win from the C’s in Florida.

Friday’s game

Floyd “Money” Mayweather was at the TD Garden taking in his All Star friend Isaiah Thomas take on the Orlando Magic in the the first game of a home-and-home.

Thomas struggled shooting the ball (5-14 and was 0-3 from three), but finished his night with 14 points and 8 assists.

The Celtics bench was the catalyst in the win scoring 62 of the green’s 113 points. Marcus Smart and Kelly Olynyk both chipped in 16 points while Evan Turner dazzled in the second half and finished scoring 15 points.

The Kelly-Smart-Turner combination off the bench were a plus-78.

The final quarter was were the Celtics stepped on the throats of the Magic only allowing 17 points and scoring 27.

Final: Celtics 113 Magic 94

Sunday’s game

Boston took their season high 5 game winning streak to Orlando and lead by as much as 14 points, but Orlando shot their way back into contention behind rookies Mario Hezonja (17 points) and Aaron Gordon (19 points).

In the second half, the Magic went on a 21-5 run while Boston couldn’t find water in the middle of the ocean.

Marcus Smart (26 points on 8 for 16 shooting) made it interesting in the final seconds, but it wasn’t enough for the Celtics to complete the comeback.
