With the February 29th trade deadline looming, Loui Eriksson’s name has been mentioned in numerous trade rumors that involve shipping the 30-year-old right wing out of town. On pace for his best season as a Bruin, Eriksson, with all eyes on him because of the nearing deadline, continued to impress Wednesday night, scoring 33 seconds in OT to put the Bruins past the Blue Jackets 2-1.

Playing in his 700th game, Eriksson put away a back door pass from defenseman Torey Krug, for his 20th of this season Wednesday night against the (23-28-7) Blue Jackets

“That was an easy one,” Eriksson told reporters after the game. “It was a great play by (David Krejci) and Torey, and I was able to find the net there. It was nice.”

An unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, the Bruins (31-20-6) have some decisions to make in the near future regarding Eriksson. Cam Neely mentioned on his weekly 98.5FM appearance, that the team and Don Sweeney are in discussion with Eriksson for a contract extension. If the team cannot find a way to sign Eriksson to cheap money for short years, which is highly unlikely, it may be time to part ways with the Swede.

Eriksson has scored in 5 of his last 6 games, heating up at the perfect time for a team to come in and overpay for the former 30-goal-scorer at the February 29th deadline.

Tuukka Rask held down the back end for the Bruins, stopping 28 of 29 shots, only allowing a goal to Alexander Wennberg, only a penalty shot, after a Zdeno Chara hook.

“It was one of those games I saw the puck and the guys were taking care of the rebounds” Rask said after the game.

Patrice Bergeron who missed the previous two games with a lower-body injury also added a goal, his 22nd of the season, in his first game back. Along with Adam McQuaid who missed the 18 games prior, due to an upper body injury, returned to the ice, getting 19 shifts for 14:51 TOI.

The Bruins now hold the 2nd seed in the Atlantic Division, just 4 points behind Florida. The team is off until Thursday, when they will head to Nashville to take on the Predators, puck drop scheduled for 8:00 PM.
