UMass Lowell won its first game of the season last week with a victory over Jacksonville at home, and it was also the first ever home win for the Riverhawks men’s lacrosse program. Now back at home this week, the Riverhawks will look to win again in a contest against the Manhattan Jaspers.
Lowell’s 12-9 win last Saturday against Jacksonville was historic in many ways, and it was also the best the Riverhawks have played this season. Despite one of the leading scorers of last season, Jon Philips, being out with injury, Lowell was still able to score into the double digits.
Goaltender Grant Lardieri picked up his first career victory against Jacksonville. Austin Lane led the way with three goals while Keenan Koswin had four points overall.
Manhattan is yet to win this season at an 0-6 record, and the Jaspers haven’t played in many tight games, either. They have suffered losses with scores of 16-3 (@ Bryant), 19-6 (@ Robert Morris), and 16-4 (vs Hartford). However, the Jaspers played the best they have all season with a 6-5 loss to Delaware.
The Jaspers held a 5-4 lead with less than seven minutes to play before the Blue Hens could come back and take the lead and eventually the victory. Parker Giarrantara led the way with three points in the loss, and he is the team’s leading scorer overall with 15 points on the season.
Sophomore goaltender Michael Zingaro made 11 saves overall in an impressive performance despite the loss. Parker Ferrigan of Delaware had to make just four saves as Manhattan struggled to get shots on net.
Last season, Manhattan went 1-14 and is a struggling program, in perfect position for the Riverhawks to build up victories as a young team.
Leading the way for the Riverhawks all season has been Sam Klingsporn who has 14 goals for his point total. Behind him, Sean Tyrell has nine points and Lane has seven, three of which were goals that came in the Jacksonville game.
Game time is at 1 p.m. on Saturday from the Cushing Athletic Complex in Lowell, Massachusetts.
