The UMass Lowell men’s lacrosse team picked up its second win this season with a 12-11 road win against the Wagner Seahawks on Tuesday afternoon.
Sean Tyrell led the way with six points, four of which were goals. Austin Lane had five points and three goals, while Matthew Balter contributed a hat trick of his own.
Wagner took the 1-0 lead but three straight goals from the River Hawks gave Lowell the 3-1 lead going into the second quarter. Two of Tyrell’s three goals came in the first quarter. It was 7-3 lead going into halftime for the River Hawks, and Lowell was outshooting Wagner 16-3.
A little more than ten seconds into the second half, the Seahawks exploded back onto the scoreboard. It would be a 9-7 River Hawk lead at the end of the third quarter as both teams found their offensive rhythms.
The fourth quarter was much of the same with a back-and-forth pace. Eventually it was just a one goal lead for Lowell, when William McMenamin scored his fourth goal of the contest. Lowell picked up another tally to create a two goal cushion, and while the Seahawks scored one more, Lowell did not look back.
Tomorrow at 1 p.m. the River Hawks will face the Hartford Hawks as America East play opens.
