No. 5 Umass Lowell Hockey Wins 6-0 On Road at Maine

ORONO, Maine — Sophomore forward Michael Louria (Wexford, Pa.) scored a career-high two goals and senior goaltender Kevin Boyle (Manalapan, N.J.) earned his third shutout of the season with 38 saves to lead the No. 5 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team to a 6-0 road win at Maine on Sunday night at Alfond Arena in Hockey East action.

With the four-point weekend against Maine, the River Hawks have won five straight games and improve to 8-1-2 overall on the season (4-0-2 HEA). The Black Bears fall to 0-8-3 overall and 0-4-0 in league play.

Freshman forward Ryan Dmowski (East Lyme, Conn.) gave the River Hawks a 1-0 lead just 1:47 in the opening period for his second tally of the season. Louria scored his first goal of the game on a backhander at 5:11 and C.J. Smith (Des Moines, Iowa) notched his fourth goal of the season with a wrister from the point at 12:21 on the power play to give UMass Lowell a 3-0 lead. The River Hawks got the momentum swing after they thwarted a 2-on-0 rush by the Black Bears just 10 earlier before Smith’s goal.

Adam Chapie (Oxford, Mich.) capped off the scoring in the first period at 15:15 to give the River Hawks a 4-0 lead going to the locker room.

Sophomore forward Gage Hough (Omaha, Neb.) scored the first goal of his River Hawk career on a rebound just 4:33 into the second period to give UMass Lowell a 5-0 lead in the hockey game. Louria capped off the scoring in the game just 1:47 into the third frame for his second of the game and his eighth career goal.

Boyle’s sixth career shutout for UMass Lowell now ranks fourth all-time in school history. Rob McGovern started the game for Maine and made eight saves on 12 shots in the first 15:15, while Matt Morris stopped 23 of 25 shots in relief in the final 44:28 of action.

UMass Lowell was 1-for-6 on the power play and was a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.

The River Hawks return to action on Friday, November 20th against Notre Dame. Game time from the Tsongas Center is 7:15 p.m.
